Meet Milena

Milena is a Social Worker with 10 years experience working with complex trauma with a background in crisis and early intervention spaces. She is registered with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and is currently specialising in a trauma counselling role within the Child and Adolescent Sexual Assault Services Network.

Milena began her career in frontline child protection and took this experience to the Northern Territory (Alice Springs) where she lived and worked in rural Indigenous communities. Milena has been working with clients who have mental health issues, experienced domestic and family violence, living in social isolation and complex trauma. She values and understands that individual circumstances vary and that in turn need to build on individual strength, to overcome challenges and encourage independence.

Milena uses a variety of counselling methods and approaches based on each individual’s specific background and issues identified. Always creating a safe space and encouraging client’s to use their voice and that they matter. Milena’s extensive social work experience has given her the unique qualities and specialized skills to work as a counsellor for victims of crime. Milena is accepting both Victims Services and PSS referrals.

Milena is a trained facilitator of several trauma sensitive relationship-based parenting programs and uses evidence based research to share information with parents and primary caregivers. Milena is particularly passionate about working with children, young people and adults who have experienced sexual assault.

Milena works from a strengths based, person-centred perspective where clients will build on their resources and utilise new coping strategies and problem solving skills. These internal resources will build on their personal strengths and create resilience. Clients will also navigate around what their external resources are such as social connections, family and other support networks, access to information and resources available.
