Meet Priscilla

Priscilla McCorriston is an accredited mental health social worker with more than 30 years of experience. She works from a trauma informed perspective. She has extensive experience working with people from a wide range of cultures and identities. She works full time in private practice in Newtown, Sydney and has done so since 2013.

Priscilla worked in Health services, in NSW from 1989- 2012, in a range of specialist teams including women’s health, HIV, sexual health, sexual assault and domestic violence. She has worked as a clinician, clinical specialist and manager of services. She has been the co-conveyor of the New South Wales Branch of the Ethics Committee for the AASW.

In her work with counselling clients, she works with adults and young people who are:

  • Survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, child sexual assault and child abuse; and war related trauma
  • Engaged in Family Law processes following domestic violence
  • Experiencing difficulties with their mental health (e.g. anxiety and depression, bi-polar disorder)
  • Experiencing grief and loss
  • Dealing with issues related to their sexual or gender identity

Priscilla is contracted counsellor with the Open Arms and Victims Services, NSW.

Priscilla is part of our wellbeing team

She has extensive experience providing training, consultation, and supervision to a range of professionals including social workers and psychologists and other professionals such as case managers, lawyers and general practitioners.

She has provided specialist training for Law Access.

Priscilla provides clinical supervision and consultation to a wide range of teams and individual practitioners working in the fields of domestic, family and sexual violence, child protection, disability and mental health. She enjoys the opportunity to train other workers in trauma informed care and assisting organisations to articulate policies and clinical practices that incorporate a trauma informed orientation and recognise the impact of vicarious traumatisation.

She has worked with organisations such as Women’s Legal NSW, and Knowmore Legal Service, The Deli (Domestic Violence Service), Rape Crisis NSW, now Full Stop Australia, and Parentline providing clinical consultation, and debriefing to their teams.
She is currently supervising sexual assault workers, WDVCAS workers, family support and domestic violence specialist workers, specialist disabilities workers as well as parenting specialists.

She has a particular interest in helping services orientate themselves to trauma informed practice and paying attention to the impact of vicarious traumatisation on workers.
